Helipad design criteria are mainly dictated by regulatory requirements and owners preferences within the regulator guidelines. The most important design criteria are based on the availability of space, proximity of the obstructions around the site, metro logical conditions.
In addition, the design of the helipad/heliport is required to take the following into consideration.
 Purpose for which the helipad will be used.
 Type and number of helicopters likely to use the helipad.
 Requirement of parking spaces, access road to the helipad, ground maneuvering of the helicopter, security fencing, facilities for hangar, fire fighting vehicles, ambulance, refuters , passenger lounge, reception/departure areas for passenger, air traffic control hut and air crew rest rooms etc.
